It’s a rainy Sunday in Seattle so, naturally, I’m picking the raisins out of my leftover hiking granola and making every excuse not to go outside. Luckily I’ve been able to bide my time pretty effectively because SXSW started on Friday and I had a lot of music to dive into.
South by Southwest is a festival that happens every year in March in Austin, Texas. It plays host to music, film, and interactive components giving festival goers the opportunity to experience hundreds of artists and experts from all over the world. It’s the gateway to festival season and a festival that is (and has been) on my to-do list for ASAP.

For the last two years when SXSW has rolled around I’ve scoped out their artist lineup and found SO many new bands to obsess about (and to stalk tour schedules for when they’ll hit the city I’m in). This year…I may have gone a little crazy with my playlist, but I couldn’t help myself because there were SO many good musicians on the roster.
I present to you my Ultimate SXSW 2015 playlist–I literally scoured every genre and alphabetized breakdown list of who was performing which resulted in nearly 20 hours of music. Oops?
Live vicariously through this playlist with me! (Even if it doesn’t come with food trucks dishing out aromatic BBQ or tacos.)
There are few things worse than a cold toilet seat first thing in the morning. I mean it was hard enough for me to get up, let alone for me to sit on an unrelenting throne of ice for an excruciatingly long few seconds. Cold weather brings about a lot of trials and tribulations, but personally that takes the cake for me.
I hope if you’re in a place that is hellishly cold this week (as most of the U.S. seems to be at the moment) that you’re doing your best to stay warm, stay well and (for the love of GOd) stay inside. When you do have to go out, remember: layering is caring.
It’s playlist day and I’m pretty excited about this week’s mix. There was one song that was an indisputable choice: Elastic Heart by Sia. Although it’s ultra-contemporary music video been plastered all over the pages of the internet, some of you may not have seen it yet. If you’re as intrigued as I was, then a few google searches about what Sia says the song are about will serve you well.*
*Also if you were a shameless watcher of Dance Moms like I was get ready because the infamous Maddie is alongside Shia Labeouf in the video and she absolutely slaaaaaays.
I’m still so mesmerized by the whole thing. I’ll probably watch it again riiight…now. Enjoy!
If I didn’t know it was 2015 before this morning, I do know now that I have experienced the new wave of people at the gym at 5AM. Trying to get an eliptical machine this morning was the closest I’ve ever come to fighting for my life.
Happy first Monday of 2015! May this playlist help get you through your first day back into routine and normalcy.
To say things have been busy this month would be an incredible understatement. Between festive parties (wow such social life), rush deadlines at work, being home for the holidays and trying to maintain a lifestyle that was equal parts gym and brunch (or maybe more brunch, but who’s keeping track)… things got a little out of hand.
Also if we’re being truthful I got lazy and I was REALLY into using my free time to rewatch every single episode of the office (sorry not sorry.)
However, things are finally beginning to calm down so I’m really excited to return to regular posting! Although I didn’t get as many gift guides and things up in December as I would’ve liked, I can say with confidence that I’ve got some cool things coming up now that my schedule has given me a little bit of a break.
To start getting back in the swing of things…your Monday playlist! Although it’s kind of a mix of upbeat and slower songs I figured it was appropriate for this crazy time of year.
Being a gym rat is tough. I joined last week so, you can imagine how impactful my 3 visits since then have been. Maybe gym rat isn’t the right word…not even close. But hey, fake it ’til you make it. Right guys? Right?
That being said, this week’s playlist is a gym playlist. It’s a change from what I normally lean towards, but trust me when I say that it will give you a little extra umph during that last rep of squats. Pro tip: if you’re using a barbell that’s under 50 pounds try to keep composure (because I use a 30 pound weight and often look like I’m trying to lift the hand of God).
There is only one song I wanted to add to this but couldnt and I think we all already know what that is: Beyonce’s new jam 7/11. There’s some mixed feelings buzzing around about the new song/the video but my feelings are as follows:
Bey can have fun if Bey wants to. Her video was obvi her + her crew playin’ in a hotel room. No need to get butthurt about Bey releasing a personal video that was just a fun way to put out her song–not to win awards. Let’s be real–who does the queen need to impress after all of those TOP NOTCH videos on the visual album. If anything, this video makes her further one of my favorite people on this planet. Look at her not giving a single care about what you think about her. ALSO LOOK AT THAT BOOOOTY. Don’t make me throw MY HANDS UP. (Video below)
Well we’ve made it to Halloween week. The week when cobwebs are acceptable, being spooked is the norm and… Christmas music has started to play in three too many stores already. I can’t even talk about the commercials that have already started airing.
ONE HOLIDAY AT A TIME, AMERICA, COME ON.
Monday playlist this week is upbeat to keep you moving through this eerie week. Halloween is next weekend, so if you’re still trying to figure out your costume hopefully this list can get you through your fierce brainstorming sesh about how you’ll achieve being the most cleverly decked out at your upcoming masquerade.
The rainy seasons is upon us in Seattle, and for most people that means the onset of seasonal depression and general loneliness. For me? It’s soup time. Also, I just got a new raincoat and things are about to go from soggy to sassy. Strut through those monday morning rain sprinkles, miss thang.
I’ve got a lot to rave about this week (brace yourselves, posts are actually coming), but on the music front I’ve been obsessed with a few albums: 1) Halfnoise | Volcano Crowe, 2) Childish Gambino | Kauai, and 3) The Preatures | Blue Planet Eyes. Those are the albums I’ve had on loop. There’s a lot of variety genre wise, and you can ride that music wave allll through the week.
This weeks playlist is 100% inspired by the fact that fog and mist are about to be a part of every day of my life for the next few months. Might as well make the most of it, right?
Don’t let the rainy days get you down! Especially rainy Mondays.
