La Piscina | Pool OOTD

La Piscina

Sometimes a getaway is exactly what you need when life seems to have been whizzing past you at warp speed. It’s easy to lose the beauty in moments when they all start to melt together.

A pool day is definitely in order; one with rays of sunshine and beads of sweat that are not only symbols of a physical detox, but a mental one as well. I’m all about this monochromatic swimsuit paired with a tropical, patterned kaftan on top. A vintage inspired pair of shades to protect my eyes, sunscreen to protect my face and water to keep me hydrated through the day are my other essentials.

What do you do to take a breather?

Regular posting back SO soon.

Pretty boy // Your Monday Playlist

Pretty boy

Getting back into the swing of things can be hard after a weekend of warm family moments and an abundance pillowy dinner rolls. Here are a few words to inspire your next few moves:

•Today is going to be great. It is a new week. It is a new day. It is a new beginning. There is no reason not to be delighted in that.

YOU are great. You are talented and your dreams are worth chasing. They are worth it. You are worth it.

•Know that you are loved. It’s Monday and sometimes it feels like everything is spiraling in a bad direction. It’s not. Breathe and know you are going to make it through.

•You can make the decision to be happy today. Don’t forget that.

•You can also make the decision to choose pizza for lunch, and there is no better cure for a bad day than that.

This weeks playlist was inspired by my (often discussed) masculine-feminine style obsession for spring 2014; I’m continuing to love the shapes and pieces involved in a more boyish look and twisting them with girlish textures and details . My two favorite items are the oversized black watch (MARC by Marc Jacobs) and the boyfriend shorts (rag & bone featured here, but we all know about the love affair I have with the Madewell suitor.)

The playlist is a bunch of fabulous ladies who sing like angels. So, without further adieu, your Monday mixtape:

Spring Dreams | Jamie & the Jones SS14

Collection: Spring/Summer 2014 Jamie & The Jones • Photography: Brett Warren • Video: Tyler Evans

I cannot get over the hues and simple, beautiful shapes of, Nashville based fashion label, Jamie & The Jones for Spring/Summer 2014. Each piece is so organic and the combination of dye colors/techniques only furthers the uniqueness of it all. Not only are the pieces pretty, but they are hand marbled and handmade in Nashville. The collection was done in collaboration with Shutters and Shuttles.

The ambiance of the shoot could not have been better for the collection. The dewey skin, softness of the hair and speckled nails are the cherries on top. My vision of spring has been officially been epitomized.

Coachella is a festival I’ve had on my radar for a while. While I’ve been to Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, I know the feel of a west coast festival would be much different and it’s definitely something I plan to experience (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Coachella is a celebration of Art, Music and sunny California.  It’s also widely recognized for the style that is exhibited by it’s goers; I might even venture to say that it sets the standard for what people will be wearing for the duration of festival season.

My fashion picks are a mashup of hard and soft pieces that I could definitely see myself rocking during the weekend long celebration, as well as for the rest of the summer. My favorites are probably the jewelry from Catbird, the NSF Patchwork Jeans I spotted on Shopbop, and the Steve Madden leopard Birkenstock style sandal.

To make the envisioning process a little easier, here’s a Spotify playlist of most of the artists playing at Coachella! Hopefully you’ll discover some new music along with loving some already favorites.

(Nows the part where you grab some takeout, throw on a sunhat, roll into your hammack and turn up the tuneage)

March Favorites // April Playlist

FAVE_03141. The Spring Madewell Catalogue. It’s basically describing the Madewell girl to be a pretty tomboy. HELLO, is it me you’re looking for? They should just rename their brand to “hammer” because they nailed it. I poured over all of the images and outfits and a particular pair of boyfriend shorts (pictured above) all month. Check out their new collection here.

2. My little green roommate whose been bringing me positive feelings and hope for spring. I got this succulent at Trader Joe’s (which may as well be a favorite item in itself) for literally  $2.50.

3. The amethyst I picked up at the Flea Market was obviously a no brainer. Look how faceted and purple it is. It’s also my birth stone, so the fact that it’s in my room must mean that I’m really building up my Aquarius points about now. Right?

4. ULTIMATE SPRING LIPSTICK: Vegas Volt from MAC. It’s a florescent coral color that will change your life no matter what your skin tone may be.

5. Grace. I hadn’t had a chance to read Grace Coddington’s perfect memoir until now. I spotted it on a friend’s coffee table and promptly interrupted our conversation to inform him that I would be checking it out of his personal library.

6. Josephine. I really should stop talking about it, but I’m not over it yet. The wine list was never ending, the cheese plate was impressive, and the atmosphere was really unique for a Nashville restaurant. If you get the chance you’ve got to go.

7. Trader Joe’s (85% Cacao) Dark Chocolate Lover’s Chocolate Bar. Because I’ve tried to adapt some better eating habits this year, dark chocolate is my savior when I am craving something sweet but am trying my damnedest to battle my sugar cravings. I eat a 1 inch square and I am sa-tis-fied.

8. Maroon Zara boots. I got these for Christmas and they have been on my feet almost every day since then. Comfortable, versatile, pointed toe…another testament to my Masculine/Feminine wardrobe aesthetic. I’m not sure they still have this exact pair, but I can promise that you’ll stumble across another pair you like here.

9. LUSH Cosmetics Rosie giftbox. I bought this for myself and I’ve never felt more like a pampered princess than when I was surrounded by rose scented bubbles and then slathered in a rich, fragrant rose+aragon body conditioner. (Pro tip: don’t use the bubble macaroon in a jacuzzi. Don’t ask…just don’t.)

& finally

It wouldn’t be the beginning of a new month without a new playlist. Thanks to a flurry of SXSW recaps and Spotify success stories, I’ve discovered a lot of addictive (and eclectic) tuneage this month; it just so happens that it’s perfect for putting a little *spring* in your step. Open up your windows and enjoy…

Last night I was inspiration hunting for a photoshoot I have the privilege of styling today. The story I developed for the shoot is titled “Runaways in San Tropez.

[PICTURE THIS]: It’s the 1990’s. Three Parisian twenty-somethings longing for a holiday at the sea finally escape the buzz of the city by fleeing to the south of France. They desperately want to fit in with the effortless elegance of the glamazons gracing San Tropez with their presence, but no matter how hard they try they can’t completely subdue their draw to all things grunge.

I want it be a juxtaposition of the glamourous style of the sixties (think: Audrey Hepburn) with, say, the staple styles of the 90’s (Drew Barrymore & Kate Moss circa 1994). Thus, when I ran across these Zara lookbooks (both their women’s line and their Trufaluc line) I was truly smitten.

(I should’ve just called this post Parentheses)

The silhouettes of these looks aren’t only something I hope to channel in my styling today, but also in my personal styling throughout the upcoming seasons. It’s hard to go wrong with solid colored, staple pieces…especially cropped ones. The whole Parisian closet movement is about all those things? Right?

The nineties shouldn’t be a period of fashion that we shake our heads at, but instead one that we nod to with a peep of skin, a good cut and a straight, maybe even slightly oversized, silhouette.

I, on the other hand, will be striving to look like a member of the Babysitter’s Club at all times. If you guessed Claudia, you’re right.

Senso Summer

Reece heel (trying to locate), 7. Levi Boot, 8 .(MY FAVORITE) Riley II Heel, 9. Frankie II

A few weeks ago on Aimee’s , Song of Style, Instagram I experienced love at first site. They were a pair of white heeled sandals that laced up the front of their ankle band, were about 3 inches high, and were the most perfect shoes I’d ever seen. Ever since then I’ve been on high alert, shoe stalking them on Pinterest and all the other fashion outlets I could find.

Finally I discovered that they were by an Australian shoe brand called Senso, who I probably should’ve heard of before now but hadn’t, so I decided to venture over to the website. I was curious to see if they were a one hit shoe wonder or if other things they designed were just as perfect as my sandal crush. It was the latter. I’ve made a huge mistake.

Admittedly, my summer shoe selection often hails from Targét.

Why did she put that stupid accent mark? I hated it as much as you did, let’s just move on.

Anyway, Target. I usually snag a few pairs here and there to make it through the summer, but this year I’m thinking it would be more worth my time to invest in one pair and ride out all of the hot months we’ve got coming up.

Senso shoes are available on the Senso website, as well as on Solestruck, Revolve Clothing, Asos, and a lot of other places. Take a trip to Google town if you need more info on that.

Thoughts? Feelings? More Shoe Brands I need to see? Let me know!

Instagram Catchup // February

Instagram via @lacunningham Jeni’s  is down the street from my house now, so this is now the most dangerous thing that’s ever happened to me.Instagram via @lacunningham Spent an afternoon at the Nashville Humane Association playing with the sweetest puppies. This guy’s name is Arctic, and he was my favorite.Instagram via @lacunningham Crema is a great place to go for coffee, work, and seeing everyone you ever knew that also loves coffee and is aware of Crema. Coffee is always good and so is the company. I’d highly recommend it if you’re in Nashville and have never been. You don’t do coffee? Their Chai latte is also the best I’ve had in the city. Just go. And while you’re there, pick up one of their Nashville mugs and admire their chalkboard wall art. Have I sold you yet?Instagram via @lacunningham My 23rd birthday rolled around on the 9th of February. The day started with the MOST exquisite brunch of blood orange mimosas, steak eggs benedict, and pancakes at The Southern. It’s located in the heart of downtown Nashville and you NEED to pay them a visit. They had a huge amount of people waiting to sit down as we were leaving, so I’d definitely suggest making a reservation. In any case: go.Instagram via @lacunningham Instagram via @lacunningham Also my best friends threw me a surprise birthday party and I’ve never felt more loved in my entire life. I can’t say thank you enough times.Instagram via @lacunningham  Instagram via @lacunningham I bared my legs because they sun came out and I wasn’t sorry about it.

This week’s was inspired by a recent post by A Beautiful Mess. She went to a store that I’ve passed 100 times on my street and on Tuesday I decided it was my turn to venture in. White’s Mercantile is a collection of knick knacks that are so the spirit of Nashville. Vintage inspired and all of it would look perfect on that shelf that you just need to add SOMETHING ELSE on. Worth a trip to 12 South to browse around. Also, you should probably buy one of the candles they have on display because they are *praise hands emoji* GOOD.Instagram via @lacunningham

“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.”

-Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

The past few weeks, every waking moment I’ve had I’ve spent day dreaming about sunny afternoons and excuses to go down the street to Las Paletas and get a popsicle just because.

The warmer temperatures have prompted met to surround myself with flowers, friends, and a fresh outlook. I did a closet overhaul, and I’ve never been happier to open its doors in my life. It’s all seems sort of new and a lot more manageable.

I’ve done the same thing with a lot of my priorities. An overhaul of things weighing me down. Results? Happier me.

Take advantage of spring, ya’ll.

Countdown to LA: 12 days.

Fashion Week Catchup // Wednesday-Thursday

My mind is actually blown that I’ve ended up in New York for fashion week this year. Luckily enough, I got here after much of the snow has subsided and have just been hitting pop up shops and promo parties like they are two-for-one Tuesdays in Nashville. MBFW is real, guys.

JK I’m actually wrapped up in an afghan, hair in a post-shower top knot and trying to downplay the sincerity of my late night hunger pains by aggressively clicking through every show available to me on style.com in real time. The glam factor is here, everyone.

Seriously though, there are a lot of shows and I don’t know how any normal person is supposed to keep up with them, so I thought I’d post a few of my favorites from fall/winter 2014 thus far. Here. We. Go.
