On Saturday afternoon I made a visit to the local beach with my boyfriend. We spotted a large, driftwood log overlooking the Puget Sound and made it our perch while we watched the waves bob against the backdrop of the Olympic mountains. The air was rich with the ocean’s salty aroma, and the sunlight couldn’t have been more golden. It felt like the early onset of summer—a new season. Not just for Seattle, but for me too. I feel like I’m entering a new phase of my life and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. A phase of exploring new interests, honing new skills and meeting new people. I’m not sure what it will bring yet, but—like a summer sunset—I’m eager to watch it unfold.
Before I started working out, getting a smoothie was a great way to relieve myself of calorie guilt after a particularly shitty day/week of eating.
“Green smoothie? I’ll take it. Jesus, I’m a health food nut!”
Now? Smoothies are a quick and easy way for me to get all my nutrients that help me reap the benefits of the lifting I’ve been doing in the gym, as well as the vitamins that keep me healthy. I’m about 90% convinced that the reason I haven’t gotten a cold this winter is because of how many greens I’ve been consuming (and there’s hardly been a salad in sight).
Smoothies that I drink after working out are high in protein and full of fruits, vegetables and fiber. I’m still learning about the textures and flavors I like and have yet to dive into smoothie-aficionado additions, like wheatgrass and aminos (or something), but I’m pretty excited about the discoveries I’ve made so far. Check it:
Again, put everything in the blender and goooooooo. This smoothie is a spin on PBJ sandwiches (obvs). I was feeling really clever when I got this tart treat all worked out.
I want to shout out to a special someone who’s really amplified my smoothie experience…I’m talking to you Vitamix! I’ve honestly never used a better blender and don’t know if I’ll ever be able to look back. Smoothies (and everything else I’ve made with it) are smooth (how revolutionary) , evenly blended and flavors are well dispersed. The Vitamix has lots of great settings (the smoothie one is SPOT on) and it’s easy to clean. Although it might seem like an expensive option for a blender, we got ours refurbished for about half the price and it’s as good as new.
Let me know if you try any of these or if you have any ideas for new ones! I’ll be excited to hear about them!
To say things have been busy this month would be an incredible understatement. Between festive parties (wow such social life), rush deadlines at work, being home for the holidays and trying to maintain a lifestyle that was equal parts gym and brunch (or maybe more brunch, but who’s keeping track)… things got a little out of hand.
Also if we’re being truthful I got lazy and I was REALLY into using my free time to rewatch every single episode of the office (sorry not sorry.)
However, things are finally beginning to calm down so I’m really excited to return to regular posting! Although I didn’t get as many gift guides and things up in December as I would’ve liked, I can say with confidence that I’ve got some cool things coming up now that my schedule has given me a little bit of a break.
To start getting back in the swing of things…your Monday playlist! Although it’s kind of a mix of upbeat and slower songs I figured it was appropriate for this crazy time of year.
