Simple Summer | May Playlist

Simple Summer

Simplicity: a summer filled with fresh drinks accented by notes of citrus and mint, an easy sandal that goes with everything, effortless outfits that keep us feeling cool (in every sense of the phrase), evenings on porches with friends, sunglasses being the only eye makeup you need. That’s what I want this year to look like. I want it to be easy and focused on moments and people, rather than overly complicated with summer bucket lists that seem to replace spontaneity.  I want to choose moments over planning. I want to make memories. I want simplicity.
I can hardly believe that May is about to make it’s grand entrance into 2014. It seems like yesterday we were just toasting to the new year and now it’s nearly summer. Crazy. But with a new month (and a new week) comes a new playlist! Discovered some really great new artists this week that I am excited to share with you guys. Enjoy!

Leaving for Spain 3 weeks from today. Words cannot express my excitement.

Coachella is a festival I’ve had on my radar for a while. While I’ve been to Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, I know the feel of a west coast festival would be much different and it’s definitely something I plan to experience (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Coachella is a celebration of Art, Music and sunny California.  It’s also widely recognized for the style that is exhibited by it’s goers; I might even venture to say that it sets the standard for what people will be wearing for the duration of festival season.

My fashion picks are a mashup of hard and soft pieces that I could definitely see myself rocking during the weekend long celebration, as well as for the rest of the summer. My favorites are probably the jewelry from Catbird, the NSF Patchwork Jeans I spotted on Shopbop, and the Steve Madden leopard Birkenstock style sandal.

To make the envisioning process a little easier, here’s a Spotify playlist of most of the artists playing at Coachella! Hopefully you’ll discover some new music along with loving some already favorites.

(Nows the part where you grab some takeout, throw on a sunhat, roll into your hammack and turn up the tuneage)

Shoes | Spring 2014

1EN136-Q74_A_97

If we’re being totally honest, I’m a little bit afraid of the Birkenstock trend that seems to be gracing the feet of fashion mavens internationally. There is something delightfully tacky about it all, but the charm isn’t irresistible enough for me to hop on the foot bareing bandwagon. Instead, I’d opt for something like these Acne Aimi Peach sandals. I think they hit similar notes of the Birkenstock, but are way more up my alley. The nude color means that these sandals, theoretically, will go with every outfit in my closet aaaaand therefore I really don’t need any other shoes, right?

Things I love about these sandals:

  • Chunky heel – walking and comfort both become easier to come by.
  • Croc Print – because who wants to risk their life (and credit score) getting me the real thing.
  • Double buckle – My ankle is secure AND the hardware is gold? Topshop gets me.

These, ladies and gentlemen, are the Rag and Bone Kent Desert Sneakers. They’re made of leather and look comfy as hell, so you can bet your bottom dollar that they are all I want to wear when I’m trotting around town in the warmer months.

Do I really need to elaborate further than saying “PINK. ZARA. BOOTS.”? Because I don’t think I even do.bb437958-ed0e-4f3c-995d-a887f2b51b20

Alexander Wang made a white leather loafer, and all the Lord’s people said “Amen.” I’m really attracted to the shape of this shoe because I know it would work with pants, shorts, and skirts. I think it’s masculine enough while still retaining some femininity with the pointy toe. Super clean and super versatile, A. Wang Hilary’s are what spring is about.

Because I’m really trying hard at this “young professional” thing, I thought it might be reasonable to include a more conservative shoe. Wide ankle strap = no blisters for this mamasita. I’m not trying to grimace as I walk down the street. Hell hath no fury like a woman in shoe pain.  Thanks, Sam Edelman (also, is it “E-dell-man” or “Edel-man” because I just really don’t know, ya’ll).

SHR3-0765STI_white_hero_0The grand finale, as it should be, is a 3.1 Phillip Lim. Check out those sexy, strappy puppies. I love how this shoe is glamourous and practical at the same time. I think it’d be just as easy to pull it off on the street as it would at a resort. My birthday is in 4 days so whoever mails the first pair to me gets an entire cake, okay? Okay.
